Petra is an ancient desert city of Jordan, which was first inhabited for two thousand years ago by the Nabateans, a nomadic group of Arab descent, who made this city prosper due to it’s location on the caravan route that carried the incense, spices and other luxury goods between Egypt, Syria, Arabia and the southern Mediterranean. In addition to initiating economic development in Petra, the Nabataeans left high architectural culture through it’s majestic ruins carved by hand, represented especially independent temples and tombs. The tombs symbolized the honor of those buried in the interior and were a sign of wealth to their culture. These had on the capitals of the columns floral designs and animal shapes. However, their first traces appeared as an urban center in the late first century, with shaped camp, but was in 106 AD, when after the conquest of the Romans, Petra took another turn at the level of it’s urban organization, establishing a straight path along the central market. Surrounded by porches with columns, the linear street served as architectural footprint of the conquest of Rome. Finally, after mastering various cultures like the Romans and the Nabataeans, Petra is the result of a city that was being molded to the needs and customs of the populations mentioned above.
